North Shore electorate

North Shore covers many of Auckland's northern suburbs, including Devonport, Takapuna, and Mairangi Bay. The electorate is held by National’s Simon Watts, who was first elected in 2020 and won re-election in 2023 with a margin of 24,892. National won the party vote with 51% in 2023, followed by Labour on 18%. The very first MP for the electorate between 1946 and 1949 was from Labour—National have won it in every election since.

Why I'm standing

I'm running in the North Shore electorate because I can see how my friends and neighbours are struggling. Bills are rising, our marine environment is getting worst, and after decades there still no solution to Lake Road traffic. It's time for change, and the Greens have plans to lower power and grocery bills and protect our waterways. I've lived a life of service and that continues with wanting to represent my community.

About me

I was raised on the North Shore and joined the Navy from high school. During my military service, and subsequent UN work in Gaza, I saw some of the best and worst of our world. These experiences shaped me and showed me the value of peace and generosity. Now I live and work locally at a cutting edge tech startup and will bring forward-thinking innovation into politics to improve lives in my community.

My priorities

  1. Lowering cost of living. Bills from power, groceries, childcare have skyrocketed; wages have not.
  2. Protecting the Waitematā and our environment. Clean up waterways, ban trawling, reduce emissions.
  3. Improving transport across the North Shore and especially access to Devonport.
