Northland electorate

Northland covers the northernmost section of Aotearoa, including the population centres of Kaitaia, Kerikeri, and Dargaville. The seat is currently held by National’s Grant McCallum, who was first elected in 2023 with a margin of 16,272. National won the party vote with 35%, followed by Labour with 22%. The electorate has the highest percentage of those engaged in voluntary work in the country, with 22% of the electorate volunteering in some form compared to 15.2% nationally.

Why I'm standing

We need bold, strong politics to cut through the chaos we're collectively facing. Whether it be cost of living or climate chaos, incremental changes won't work. Empowering citizens to collectively and meaningfully participate in the democratic process is key to creating the systemic changes at governance level that will allow us to both confront and change the political and economic systems that are killing our planet. Our current system is medieval. Together better alternatives happen!

About me

My extensive involvement with social and environmental issues has given me insight into the challenges that we are now all facing. As a past Northland Regional Councillor I understand governance, how it's not fit for purpose, how it needs to change! Non-violence, transparency, inclusiveness and responsibility are principles that guide me, personally and politically. I enjoy robust, evidence-based dialogue, guided by available science and speak my mind regardless of consequence, without fear or favour.

My priorities

  1. Massive rooftop solar + battery rollout creating employment and lowering your electricity prices.
  2. Create 1000 Jobs for Nature for DOC to give young people training and meaningful employment
  3. Storm-proof roads connecting all towns to Whangarei and South, rebuilding rail for the heavy loads
