The Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand (Te Rōpu Kākāriki o Aotearoa, Niu Tīreni) is a left-wing progressive party. Its programme has historically merged climate and environmental concerns with a commitment to social justice. Founded in 1990, it has provided confidence and supply to Labour governments in 2002 and 2017. Former leader James Shaw is responsible for the Climate Change Act which commits New Zealand governments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Chloe Swarbrick and Marama Davidson are the co-leaders of the Green Party. Its slogan in 2026 is “For All of Us.”
