Selwyn electorate

Selwyn covers much of the rural area outside of Christchurch, including the towns of Rolleston, Lincoln, and Darfield. The seat is held by National’s Nicola Grigg, who was first elected in 2020 and won re-election in 2023 with a margin of 31,504. National won the party vote with 49%, followed by Labour with 18%. The electorate is one of the fastest growing in the country, having lost area to Christchurch following the last three electorate censuses. This had the effect of redistributing Grigg outside of her electorate in the 2025 electorate changes.

Why I'm standing

I am running for election because I believe Selwyn and New Zealand as a whole need a democratic-socialist alternative to the other parties currently campaigning.

About me

I've been involved in many advocacy groups for workers' rights, fair pay, and equality. So I understand the social and economic problems that concern our communities. This has also given me experience in organising campaigns around a specific issue. As a proud worksite union representative, I am also aware of the day-to-day issues that working families face in our current system.

My priorities

  1. Prioritizing the rising nitrate levels in our groundwater that we take from for drinking water.
  2. Establishing a strong support system for workers to ensure they are being treated fairly at work.
  3. Creating an electrified public rail system for rural/town communities that would be free of charge.
