Tāmaki electorate

Tāmaki covers several of Auckland’s eastern suburbs, including Stonefields, Saint Heliers, and Ōrākei. The electorate is held by ACT’s Brooke van Velden, initially a list MP who won the seat in 2023, though she is retiring at this election. Van Velden won the seat with a margin of 17,858. National won the party vote with 52%, followed by Labour with 17%. Van Velden’s win marked the first time ACT had won a competitive electorate (the party had previously won Epsom, through an electorate deal with National).

Why I'm standing

I'm determined to bring hope and heart back to our politics. We need to end the decline we've seen under National and Act, which has damaged the economy and our social fabric. I've dedicated my career as a lawyer and campaigner to standing up for working people, human rights, and solving people's problems. I've fought and won for people, including in multiple cases in the Supreme Court. I'll be a voice for all of Tāmaki.

About me

Tāmaki needs a hard-working, accessible MP who's focused on results. There's beauty and pride here, but also struggle and inequality: our neighbourhoods face different pressures relating to housing, transport, infrastructure, and rising prices. Since opening my office in Glen Innes in April, I've been helping locals solve issues. I've held public meetings, stood on street corners, knocked on doors, and met with locals from all walks of life. I'll continue to fight for you.

My priorities

  1. Taking control of spiralling costs. I understand the economy, and can relate across our community.
  2. Ensuring security in the economy. Tāmaki was let down by Act's pay equity cuts, and deserves hope.
  3. Fixing our foundations. Tāmaki deserves infrastructure investment that keeps pace with development.
