Auckland Council

Rodney Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). One councillor will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

I have lived in Rodney for almost my whole life. Currently I work for Northern Presbytery as a youth coordinator, I resource and advocate for youth workers throughout Auckland and Northland. I am also on the Executive Committee for the WCRC as the representative for Australasia. This is an international humanitarian organisation which is in 108 countries with an estimated membership of 80 million people, where I have been involved in creating policy for them.

About me

I realised we needed someone who can represent Rodney going into the future and believe that I would be a great choice for Rodney. Yes we need someone to fix the potholes (everyone knows they are atrocious) but we also need infrastructure that will be sustainable for our community going forward as we grow and I can't see that happening.

My priorities
  1. Engage in community-based decision making to ensure decisions are want the community needs.
  2. Fix the roads, this is clearly a priority for residents. They are unsafe and unsustainable.
  3. Support our young people. Benefiting all generations, by training and retaining our skilled youth.
