Auckland Council

Whau Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). One councillor will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

I am the incumbent Whau Ward Councillor – first term. My reason for standing again is that I believe in democracy and not being controlled by central government political parties. We must listen to our people, their views on rates spend. Better oversight needs to occur at council with improved responsiveness. I have concerns about how policies don't fully meet the needs of Aucklanders. Past mayors controlled with a political party vote.

About me

I have always been open, transparent, listened to my community and Aucklanders and voted that way – that's a fact and on record. I have lived in the Whau and been part of the community over 27 years. I didn't just move in for an election as others may have. I believe in the rights of ratepayers to have a say and standing for their views – not a political party viewpoint. I'm hard working.

My priorities
  1. Seek better and improved democracy at the governor's table.
  2. Improved policies and the implementation of those policies.
  3. Fairness for all when decisions are taken. A recreation centre and pool in Whau!
