Why I'm standing

Our region is facing a multitude of environmental problems and social issues. Much is due to global conditions beyond our control, but how we react and respond is within our control. Some of our problems are the result of elected and executive leaders lacking courage, foresight, being wilfully ignorant of the research, or unable to think holistically, culminating in bad decisions with serious consequences. I am running because I have skills that can help.

About me

I am a PhD-qualified scientist with experience in environmental analytical chemistry, and a keen tramper. In my previous three years as councillor I learned to be an effective advocate and gained the support of fellow councillors for my initiatives in biosecurity and regional rail. I've pushed successfully for regular free drinking water testing in South Canterbury and I have developed connections with members of parliament that enable me to progress critical issues.

My priorities
  1. Impacts on water quality from agriculture, industry, sanitation, chemical use and irrigation.
  2. Climate change impacts on the coast, on flood risk, on pollution risk and on loss of biodiversity.
  3. Indoor and outdoor air pollution, and carbon emissions from transport, industry and agriculture.
