Far North District Council

Ngā Tai o Tokerau Māori Ward
The Far North District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Four councillors will be elected from the Ngā Tai o Tokerau Māori ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Far North District Council election.

Why I'm standing

Māori ward seats are a wonderful gain for ensuring 55+% of the Far North population is heard.

About me

I have a background in sports coaching, broadcasting and was a teacher for 32 years. I am involved in my marae, have been active in Tiriti education and committed to reducing child poverty. I have good energy in the tank to give back to our community.

My priorities
  1. To actively support and endorse good local initiatives and solutions for community issues.
  2. Utilise council expertise and skills to support good things happening in our communities.
  3. Start a community shuttle from Kaitāia to Te Rangi Aniwaniwa for morning swimmers to use heated pool.
