Far North District Council

Ngā Tai o Tokerau Māori Ward
The Far North District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Four councillors will be elected from the Ngā Tai o Tokerau Māori ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Collaborate with iwi, all consumers to minimise waste, the merits of recycling and encourage local initiatives in safe reuse of waste.

    Commit council to utilise proven local expertise and local kaitiakitanga initiatives to manage and eradicate pests and invasive species.

  • Create a waste management contract that is fit for purpose and delivers for all of our communities.

    Ensure every community centre has council serviced rubbish and recycle bins.

  • Make the government accountable to the infrastructural support promised in the Three Waters.
