Grey District Council

Central Ward
The Grey District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Central ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Grey District Council election.

Why I'm standing

It's an exciting time to enter local body politics with many big challenges ahead including Three Waters, Te Tai o Poutini – One District Plan and rolling out of the current Long Term Plan 2021-31 which has a strong infrastructure focus.

About me

My connection with the community across many aspects is a huge advantage. My current role as Regional Manager of Sport Canterbury West Coast engages with schools, sports groups, recreational providers, volunteers, event management and the health sector. Over 20 years of coaching also builds the ability to relate to people of all ages and at all levels, from kids to politicians. I've spent many hours volunteering across the community as well.

My priorities
  1. Improve walking and cycling options around Greymouth by improving access to the floodwall network.
  2. Upgrade existing council sport and recreational facilities to be more accessible for everyone.
  3. Investigate public transport options to support our ageing population.
