Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

Commit to council's goal to be carbon neutral by 2050 and continuing with our cities climate action plan.
Invest in communities at risk to improve our collective understanding on the impacts of climate change and work on adaptive measures.
Invest in community groups working on nature based solution to tackle impacts of sea level rise and floods.
Committing to the Climate Action Pathway to ensure we meet our emission reduction targets.
Embedding climate change adaptation into policies and procedures right across Hutt City Council.
Consult with local community experts in the harbor ward to assist in finding solutions to protect the Eastern Bays from flooding.
