Kaipara District Council

Kaiwaka-Mangawhai General Ward
The Kaipara District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Kaiwaka-Mangawhai ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kaipara District Council election.

Why I'm standing

Mangawhai and the Kaipara district are facing change and pressure on an extraordinary level, from a growing population to significant reforms shifting the role of local government. While we can't hold back change and development, we can set the direction that best serves our community, our environment, and our future. My focus as a councillor will be to ensure that our community is leading the change while protecting the values that make this place special.

About me

My passions are stemmed in community. Having grown up in rural communities, I understand the values that are important for our district to thrive. I'm a local business owner, board member and parent, and my aim in any situation is to be balanced, pragmatic and understanding of why things are the way that they are. I would bring the same approach to council and community engagement, and I would be honoured to receive your vote.

My priorities
  1. Ensure transparency for the community to better understand the challenges and opportunities we face.
  2. Seek a 'blank slate' approach to council's budgets, revenue and expenses.
  3. Ensure that growth is warranted, sustainable and within environmental and infrastructural limits.
