Kaipara District Council

Kaiwaka-Mangawhai General Ward
The Kaipara District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Kaiwaka-Mangawhai ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kaipara District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I've lived in Mangawhai for 18 years, raised a family here. I've always been passionate about local issues and supporting our community. Committees I've served on are the kindergarten, MBS School and Netball Club. Over the last two years I've been secretary/active committee member of our local action group, Mangawhai Matters. Principles of honesty, affordability (rates), effective community consultation, responsible development (growth pressure issues) and retaining green space/quality amenities in Mangawhai/Kaiwaka are important to me.

About me

I've always wanted to stand for council and represent my community. To prepare for this important role I have, over many years, made time to attend Kaipara District Council briefings and meetings. It's important knowing what's going on and to understand council procedure. I already read council agendas, share with the community how they can have their say, participate in submissions/hearings/workshops. I have local experience, work well with others and will prioritise commonsense outcomes for our community.

My priorities
  1. Rates affordability. Council must do the basics well. Prioritise necessities over nice to haves.
  2. Ensure more clear/detailed communication occurs when consulting with communities. Better outcomes.
  3. Commonsense strategies needed to manage growth pressures, infrastructure and resource constraints.
