Why I'm standing

I want to ensure fully-informed decision making occurs at a local level, where all sides of an issue are debated and residents given the opportunity to vote on decisions that may have an adverse affect on their lifestyle, livelihood or standard of living. Also, I believe that residents deserve the opportunity to be advised of and discuss the possible long range consequences of such decisions, which may not be immediately apparent.

About me

I have lived in Halcombe for nearly 30 years and have personal experience of some of the issues that affect rural communities. I have spent the majority of my working life in public service (BCNZ, NZ Police and teaching) and have experience in dealing with a wide range of people and issues. I hate to see injustice and if elected, will do my best to see that people in the Manawatū District are treated justly.

My priorities
  1. Protection of private property rights, individualism and free-enterprise so people are respected.
  2. Maintain rates affordability; don't rate people out of their homes or choose paying rates over food.
  3. Binding referendum before decisions affecting people's livelihood, lifestyle or standard of living.
