Manurewa Local Board

The Manurewa Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Regenerate Manurewa wai (water) and whenua (land) networks by working with iwi, community and providers to restore the Manurewa waterways.

    Commit to funding current and emerging initiatives looking to restore, sustain and protect the interaction between tāngata and whenua systems.

    Apply ecological literacy to improving the water quality of the Manukau Harbour.

  • Support and expand existing schemes for pest eradication and programmes to deal with invasive weeds.

    Support national plans for Three Waters.

    Create incentives for homeowners to recycle.

  • Create mangrove protected areas as they filter water quality and provide essential nutrients for marine biodiversity.

    Fund local pest control efforts as rats cause considerable damage to the local ecosystem.

    Develop a bird sanctuary for breeding.

  • Co-governance with ahi kaa mana whenua entities throughout the region.

  • Commit to funding initiatives that restore, sustain and protect the taiao (environment).

    Regenerate waterways and natural environments by working in partnership with iwi, community and providers.

    Champion the improvement of water quality in the Manukau Harbour, particularly the estuaries that surround Manurewa.

  • Regenerate Manukau's wai (water) and whenua networks with iwi, community and providers to restore the Manurewa waterways.

  • Minimise waste by scaling up maara kai and community garden initiatives.

    Commit to improving the Puhinui stream and Manukau harbour in partnership with mana whenua.

    Commit to further regeneration and beautification of Weymouth Beach.

  • Commit to connecting locals with their local waterway and parks.

    Commit to working to protect our environment, restore ecosystems and enhance biodiversity.
