Masterton District Council

Masterton/Whakaoriori General Ward
The Masterton District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. Four councillors will be elected from the Masterton/Whakaoriori ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I have been in business for over 35 years. I believe the council works for the people, and needs to be more open and accountable. Encourage feedback, listen to ratepayers. Being on the Board of the Ratepayers Association, I understand how it all works and can be improved. More efficiencies can be made in council operations.

About me

I will talk to anyone and listen to their views. Cancel culture running now is wrong and I believe everyone has a right to express their point of view. I may not agree with it, but you are entitled to an opinion. I have been on the Board of Business Wairarapa and Volunteering Wairarapa so understand business and those in need. On the Board of Carterton Village Charitable Trust for youth so understand youth issues.

My priorities
  1. Make the council more transparent. Review membership of undemocratic Local Government NZ.
  2. Stop closed door meetings and decisions made without/before public feedback. More public involvement.
  3. Reduce staff numbers in the council to keep expenses and hence rates down. Make council work for us.
