Te Aroha General Ward
The Matamata-Piako District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Te Aroha ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Promoting the current natural attractions we have – Mount Te Aroha and the surrounding bush walks, the Hauraki Rail Trail cycle path.

  • Encourage tourism by expediting the redevelopment of Te Aroha as a premium spa town which will enhance business and employment.

    Redirect the cycle trail so that cyclists travel down the Main Street of Te Aroha (in safety) rather than routing them around the town.

    Provide financial incentives, eg rate holidays, to attract light industry to the area acquired by council for this purpose.
