Mayor of Napier

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Napier City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

My first term as mayor has been focused on getting back to basics and our core business. Water has been our top priority and we've completed a number of water projects including two new clean water bores. But there's still work to be done, we need to continue investing in our existing facilities and infrastructure. We also need to navigate the national reforms and I will continue to fight for local voice, accountability and ownership.

About me

Proudly born and raised in Napier, community is at the heart of everything I do and the core of my decision making. I know how to build teams and I'm not afraid to tackle the hard issues. I'm proud of my leadership through the challenges of the past three years. With 30 years of accounting experience and 15 years of governance experience I am well equipped to continue leading our city for the next three years.

My priorities
  1. Continue to invest in our water network and fight the reform to retain local voice and ownership.
  2. Invest in our housing portfolio focusing on seniors, work with Kāinga Ora to provide social housing.
  3. Focus on projects to build vibrancy such as the new library which is returning to Station Street.
