Nelson City Council

Whakatū Māori Ward
The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. One councillor will be elected from the Whakatū Māori ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the city. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

Our community have asked me to serve and I have had a lifetime of preparation to represent the mana of iwi Māori well. It is a challenging undertaking but the benefits are undeniable. Ehara taku toa i te takitahi, engari he toa takitini!

About me

I have qualifications in politics and governance and as a licenced builder. I am a businessman and an artist. I have worked for government, social services and in the construction industry. My personal life is a public life already which has resulted from my passion for community success. So I believe I have the experience, qualifications and lifestyle balance required for public service.

My priorities
  1. Streamline the building and resource consents process to remove barriers.
  2. Establish a partial marine reserve along the Rocks Road – Tāhunanui coastline.
  3. Increase visibility of Māori occupation of Whakatū through art installations and events.
