Queenstown-Lakes District Council

Wānaka-Upper Clutha Ward
The Queenstown-Lakes District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 11 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Four councillors will be elected from the Wānaka-Upper Clutha ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Queenstown-Lakes District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I believe that the Upper Clutha has unique character and needs strong representation at the Queenstown-centred council. I believe that I can work effectively with other Wānaka elected members to represent local issues at council. Clear representation is required to help rebalance the subconscious focus that a mostly Queenstown-based staff have on what issues need to be addressed within the district.

About me

I have always had an interest in community challenges and development and have been active in local issues in my 24 years in Wānaka. I have submitted on many issues including the town centre masterplan, Wānaka 2020, annual and 10 year plans, active transport and public access issues. I am familiar with the Resource Management Act and district plan, and am a founding member of the Upper Clutha Tracks Trust, creating walking/cycling tracks in the district.

My priorities
  1. Work to ensure a fair share of council resources and timely delivery for the Wānaka community.
  2. Support the re-empowerment and council support of the community board to effective represent Wānaka.
  3. Work to deliver people-friendly town centres and active transport and public transport options.
