Wānaka-Upper Clutha Ward
The Queenstown-Lakes District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 11 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Four councillors will be elected from the Wānaka-Upper Clutha ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Continue to support the Queenstown Lakes Housing Trust.

    Identify public land that could be utilised by the Queenstown Lakes Housing Trust to provided relevant housing solutions.

    Review the resource consent and building consent processes to identify with the aim of reducing costs.

  • Zone for a variety of housing types in each district to ensure diversity in communities and more varied options.

    Build rental focused housing to accomodate seasonal workers and free up existing housing supply to improve affordability.

    Design masterplans with local communities to integrate grander vision, combat NIMBYs ("Not In My Neighbourhood"), and ensure community is enriched with growth.

  • Support higher density housing and people-focused development in the urban areas. Support the QLDC Inclusionary Zoning proposal.

    Support Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust, and support innovative ideas to increase availability of affordable housing.

    Support the Queenstown Lakes District Plan, and Spatial Plan, and that residential development be focused in or adjacent to urban areas.

  • Install coin operated hot showers at all freedom camping sites within the district, for the homeless living in their cars.

    Support quality sustainable and affordable building practices across the region.
