Mayor of Thames-Coromandel

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Thames-Coromandel District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

As mayor I will inspire and motivate my teams to continue building the projects that make a real difference to our people and our whenua. We'll take back council and community operation of transfer stations and other contracted operations where possible. I am motivated every day by a need to contribute to the health, the social and economic well-being of my community.

About me

I spent many years leading groups within my community and business life. I am project driven, not process bound, with a deep respect for the abilities of my teams. My success in business has been based on innovation, and I have gained valuable insight from mistakes made in the past. Our council must adapt and change to go forward. We must work together as a council, a community and a country for a stronger tomorrow.

My priorities
  1. Restore council ability to take control of costs and services by reviewing the "contracts model".
  2. Incentivise innovation, support efficiency initiatives within council to reduce costs and debt.
  3. Ensure that our services and infrastructure are future proofed and fit for purpose.
