Thames-Coromandel District Council

Thames Ward
The Thames-Coromandel District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Thames ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Thames-Coromandel District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I have enjoyed the Coromandel Peninsula and Thames together with my visits to friends and family there, so much over the years, that I now want to sink my skills and experience into the area in a meaningful way. My hope is that as change occurs in the ward, I can assist you to assess how to accommodate change, yet retain the things you value here.

About me

Well, I am fresh to the area and can claim strong independence, so my approach will be pragmatic and with no conflicts of interest. My background experience and qualifications, together with my enjoyment of working with people and wellbeing, provides me with skills that are a good fit with being an elected member of a local Council. A competent facilitator, I understand a lot about the Resource Management Act, building and survey legislation, as well as policy development.

My priorities
  1. Navigate wisely, whatever changes like the Three Waters legislation and the Resource Management Act (RMA) changes bring.
  2. Provide places, spaces, recreation and well-being opportunities so communities can thrive.
  3. Sound strategic planning after reading and sharing those sometimes large, complex council reports.
