Upper Harbour Local Board

The Upper Harbour Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of six members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Enable local populace to organise cultural festivals and events (big and small) to ensure all ethnic communities feel included. We all belong.

  • I would like to introduce the idea of fruit trees in parks.

  • Reinstate community events like Movies in the Park, and support our young musicians with a summer music events programme.

    Advocate for and support the development of a sub-regional indoor court facility in the area and encourage sports groups to use it.

    Review our off-lead dog exercise parks and how they are used, and advocate for improvements while ensuring continued maintenance.

  • Delivering recreation options cater to people of all ethnicities and ages. Ensure people know about the 'free' fun options available.

    Support recreation for all people eg sporting facilities, fruit trees in parks, dog walking. Listen to and act on community needs.

    Build a pump track or skate park as soon as funds are available. This is sorely needed as we are underserved for older children.

  • To provide enough public facilities based on population as opposed to location and area.

    Have regular community events and festivals to encourage community participants and cultural understandings.

    Build a sports park or stadium for residents (especially young people) to participate.

  • Commit to bringing forward a new swimming pool facility in northwest area for the communities West of the Greenhithe Bridge.

    Support the cultural festivals celebrating communities, and activity that celebrates our connections to groups such as military, sailing, etc.

    Commit to the sporting complex in Scott Point, Upper Harbour Regional Marine Centre, and support smaller community halls and venues.

  • Deliver recreational facilities that provide a range of recreational options for all ages.

    Work with mana whenua to provide names to parks that reflect the heritage of the area.

    Celebrate the horticultural heritage of Upper Harbour by preserving, planting, and maintaining heirloom fruit trees in public parks.

  • Establish significant increase in public engagement through internal operations and resources within the established city council.

    Reduce, restrict, simplify, replace entry charges at all public facilities for locals and reward locals for promoting local public events.

    Establish local support for sporting facilities all age levels and assisting smoother transition for licensing policies for public/business.

  • Continue to advocate for a new and expanded library in the Albany area to cater for the growing population.

    Continue to support community halls and houses as venues for place-making, community development and celebrations.

    Maintain our sports fields and the Albany Pool to a high standard so residents can participate in active sport and recreation.

  • Review many small grass public areas which provide no amenity with a view of consolidation. This will necessitate sale and repurchase.

    Review policies which lead to more low cost festivals without council support.

    Review swimming pool hierarchy within the city to better distribute scarce funding.

  • Support a new Albany Library, Scott Point Sustainable Park, coastal track, and sports facilities. Advocate for swimming pool in North West.

    Create free neighbourhood events via community groups to promote happier healthier connected people.

    Support seniors, newcomers and the youth. Assess community assets, maintain and future proof existing assets.
