Waikanae Community Board

The Waikanae Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Kāpiti Coast District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of five members: four members elected by voters, and one councillor from the Kāpiti Coast District Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Waikanae Community Board election.

Housing and planning

Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • I favour achieving local emergency and affordable housing outcomes for our locals in most need.

I do not favour three-storey buildings in our beach district, rather single–two storey medium density protecting its distinct character.

  • Develop industries in rural or outlying areas alongside a community housing project for workers in those industries.

Standards for house rentals need a list of infractions to penalise the landlord, such as free rental period while weatherproofing is done.

Create a list of those living in cars which becomes the To Do List for rehousing humanely.

  • Support special character areas and future plan for Waikanae Beach.

Encourage low impact environmental design for all new developments.

Introduce proactive measures to reduce compliance costs, eg information and training sessions for community seeking consents.
