The Waimāero Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where.   • Harewood has a large green space area and our environment is precious but community board has little influence over climate change policy.

  • Take bold climate action to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions in all council operations to help mitigate climate change.

    Support residents to adapt to climate change and seek their input in adaptation strategies and implementation.

    Create urban forests and restore wetlands to increase carbon sequestration in the city and create urban wild spaces which residents enjoy.
