Transport

Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

Get the three major cycle/walkways which connect Kaiapoi, Woodend/Pegasus and Rangiora finished and connected.

Work with NZ Transport Agency to action the Woodend safety improvements, including the Pineacres corner and underpass at the Pegasus/Ravenswood roundabout.

  • Work with NZTA to establish an off-road commuter cycleway between Woodend and Kaiapoi without negatively affecting business and residents.

Advocate for safety improvements on SH1 through Woodend and at the Ravenswood/Pegasus roundabout in particular. Support an underpass.

Commit to future proof the Rangiora Airfield which offers economic benefits for employment and transport.

  • Support developing more walking and cycling tracks.

Support having ie e bike charging stations in public spaces. Making the process easier to be reactive to the needs of the community.

Support the idea of smaller buses to go between towns within the district. Support, Shop and Eat Local.

  • Extend and improve the mountain bike and walking tracks that run along the Ashley River from Rangiora to Waikuku.

Establish safer walking and biking routes between Pegasus and Ravenswood and Woodend.

Promote the use of public transport by improving routes and travel times.

  • Make sure our local transport system is fit for purpose as we move forward with our growing community.

Road safety and road quality has some major issues at the moment. The state of our current roads would be where to start.

While most of the cycleways are great, we need to be careful not to sacrifice road safety, like I think has been done in some parts of Christchurch.
