Oxford-Ohoka Ward
The Waimakariri District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Two councillors will be elected from the Oxford-Ohoka ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Using water sustainably, including waste minimisation initiatives, for economic and social benefit.

  • Retain ratepayer owned assets of our Three Waters from which then a more cost effective strategy can be initiated to upgrade.

    Review scientific evidence in a realistic light to establish a positive longer term outcome.

    Establish the safety to humans of pharmaceutical products, agricultural sprays, weather pattern influences and radiation affects of towers.

  • Complete our Natural Environment Strategy and take action to protect what we've got and restore what we've lost, together with our community.

    Use under-utilised council land parcels suitable for native plantings to both enhance native biodiversity and sequester carbon.

    Encourage waste minimisation, education, and the circular economy through initiatives like Enviroschools, Agrecovery and Satisfy Food Rescue.
