Waimarino-Waiouru Community Board

The Waimarino-Waiouru Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Ruapehu District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members: five members elected by voters, and one councillor from the Ruapehu District Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. From parks and libraries to museums and art galleries, councils can be a key supporter of sporting, recreational and cultural events that bring communities to life. Community facilities, including sports grounds and town halls, are often owned and run by councils.

  • Encourage council to create a role for an events coordinator to assist groups hosting larger events and enhance community events.

    Ensure that maintenance and enhancement of council property, eg public toilets, community spaces, is upheld.

    Develop existing sporting facilities so that they are better able to host tournaments and events.

  • Advocate for and support community hubs in creating safe spaces and programs for our rangatahi to enjoy and do.

    Support and promote new and existing cultural, sporting and community events.

    Encourage creativity through supporting the arts in the community.
