Mayor of Waipā

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Waipā District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I'm hugely proud to be Waipā born and bred. We've done well to manage the district's growth and resources. We've made a good start. But there is so much more to do. Let's make sure Waipā builds on its strengths, and has an exciting future. To do this, Waipā needs energetic and fresh leadership. That's why I am standing for Mayor of Waipā. A vote for me is a vote for positive change for Waipā.

About me

I am a Waipā girl born and bred, with the community at heart. I am a mother, a lawyer, politician and an award-winning farmer. I have a wide range of governance experience including two terms in Waipā District Council and am currently the Chair of the Strategic Planning and Policy Committee. I believe in doing things the right way. It's important to listen, reflect, discuss and then communicate clearly. I am hard-working, approachable, fair and honest.

My priorities
  1. Council needs to be easier to deal with – simplified processes lead to better customer experience.
  2. We need a council that listens and communicates to better reflect what people want Waipā to look like.
  3. We need a future which will be good for all our diverse communities irrespective of life stage and area
