Wairoa General Ward
The Wairoa District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of six councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Wairoa (General) ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Enhance existing businesses and facilitate growth of new business through networking and linking resources.

    Encourage employment and facilitate workshops for rangatahi to realise their individual potential with accountability on the results.

  • Seal State Highway 38 and the special purpose roading through it.

    Establish a business forum that supports current and new business.

    Establish a trade school to encourage students obtain a trade locally working with the Wairoa college and EIT that supports local business.

  • Support local business except where local purchases are not possible. Rates will be lowered. Cooperate with new businesses in town.

    Employ local youth where possible, providing training in various skills. Support local employment programs. Appreciate some cannot work.
