Mayor of Waitaki

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Waitaki District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

The incumbent mayor is serving his third term having indicated retirement from this position. I feel that the district has become stale, with its average growth rate substantially below that of neighbouring districts over the last three terms.

About me

I will draw on procedures from my years of development and infrastructure experience, to save money and time, and create value for the ratepayer. I will introduce quick reference tools that build coherent pictures, to evaluate tasks at hand and the desired outcomes. These are industry formats used by professional developers, planners, architects, bankers and valuers for pragmatic assessments, to maximise productivity and successful outcomes. Council must apply processes that efficiently determine project viability.

My priorities
  1. Encourage development of vacant sections to provide new, affordable and healthy accommodation.
  2. Provide the opportunities necessary to encourage a younger, energetic and innovative workforce.
  3. Deploy innovations that enhance agricultural product for the greatest benefit to our GDP.
