Mayor of Waitomo

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Waitomo District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I want to continue on the journey begun three years ago to address the issues Waitomo faces. This means minimising rate increases to address affordability issues, bringing debt down, and improving governance and transparency. Additionally I want to see us release more land for housing, improve the resilience of our roads, and fix the water infrastructure issues apparent in Te Kuiti and Mokau in particular.

About me

I bring a wealth of local government experience to Waitomo, experience needed to attend to the financial and infrastructure challenges that we have. I enjoy engaging with the community, and getting things done. The large King Country Sport and Recreation Centre is under construction and as a key member of the steering group that got this over the line, I want to see this through.

My priorities
  1. Continue to demand fiscal disciplines at council, controlling rate increases and reducing debt.
  2. Address the housing crisis by releasing more council land for housing development.
  3. Working constructively with Maniapoto Iwi as the settlement process continues.
