Westland District Council

Hokitika Ward
The Westland District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Hokitika ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Westland District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I want to improve the transparency and accountability of council. I want to be part of a team culture where community needs are prioritised with both the governance and management of council working together for the best and most affordable outcomes.

About me

I care about the future of Westland, I have the skills, the time and want to be part of a team that can competently manage the big changes facing councils all around NZ. I am independent and not aligned to any business or political agendas.

My priorities
  1. Ensure the CE is delivering what the council governance group is expecting.
  2. Full financial transparency and accountability through improved reporting.
  3. Engage with the community better to ensure it is their views I am representing.
