Whangārei District Council

Hikurangi-Coastal General Ward
The Whangārei District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Two councillors will be elected from the Hikurangi-Coastal ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I have always been passionate about our district. I believe I can add value to the district with my positive collaborative management style. I have been well connected within the community for the past 30 years and have worked in and across diverse groups of people.

About me

As a civil engineer, I have spent over 30 years working in local civil construction. During this time, I immersed myself in governance roles on executive boards of local community, school, contracting and sporting organisations. In the past 20 years particularly, I worked in senior infrastructure management roles in Northland. I understand the importance of building relationships, trust, openness and working together.

My priorities
  1. Build a cohesive positive environment for all councillors to participate and thrive in.
  2. Settle (and move on from) long outstanding issues. This is important to be able to move forward.
  3. Review the current procurement model and gain the confidence of the local infrastructure industry.
