The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). one councillor will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Remove barriers to prosecutions and enforce strict penalties for illegal dumping.

    Support community recycling centres, increase community education to reduce waste, advocate product stewardship and keep weekly rubbish collection.

  • Limit council's role in environment and biodiversity to public goods and council-owned property.

    Make environmental data publicly available, accurate, and used to inform decisions without creating duplicate enforcement systems.

    Resolve cross-property environmental issues voluntarily unless they cause measurable harm to another's property rights.

  • Enhance biodiversity on public land through low-cost, eco-friendly land management and native planting that are practical to maintain.

    Ensure green spaces across Auckland are well-maintained, regularly cleaned and kept safe, accessible and enjoyable for all residents.

    Retain weekly rubbish collection while promoting waste reduction through well-resourced recycling centres and community education.
