Why I'm standing

I am standing – not out of ambition, but out of a deep responsibility to my region, my whānau, and our future. I was born, raised and live locally with a proven track record of leadership – across private sector, government and Māori business. Twenty years of governance experience where I transformed the relationship between Māori and government in international FTA negotiations achieving groundbreaking agreements with the UK and the EU.

About me

A graduate of NZ's and global business schools, a seasoned governor adding millions, creating jobs and growing significant new regional GDP. My leadership style is grounded in listening, building consensus and acting quickly to implement solutions. Government is signalling concerns about performance, waste and efficiency; this could erode local voice. I will unite diverse voices – Māori and Pākehā, rural and urban, younger and older – around a shared vision for the Bay.

My priorities
  1. Grow a sustainable and inclusive regional economy creating smart jobs in future-focused industries.
  2. Protect taiao and respond to climate change while delivering prosperity for all.
  3. Provide a strong regional voice into government reforms and champion efficiency to lower rates for ratepayers.
