Why I'm standing

I want to ensure iwi are involved as key stakeholders. Their input is crucial to the success of council and cohesive community as a whole.

About me

I started my first years (1978 - 1987) as an engineering geologist for Ministry of Works in Wellington NZ State Coal Mines in Huntly. Enjoyed the work but wanted to find more of myself as a Māori. Decided to change vocation and worked the next 38 years working on the socio-economic needs of my people, locally, nationally and internationally. Have I found myself? Nearly there but have enjoyed the ride. One more term should do!

My priorities
  1. Focus on climate change and being prepared. It is happening and threatening our very existence.
  2. Maintain effective and sustainable environmental protection, particularly fresh water supply.
  3. Develop and maintain effective and resilient partnerships with iwi that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
