Mayor of Carterton

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Carterton District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

We need a 10, 20 and 30 year plan for Carterton. What should Carterton look like then.

About me

Carterton needs a future vision and I have a passion and sense of urgency to ensure we achieve this. I am a team player having founded a multinational business which I ran for 20 years. I have already started by forming the Remutaka Road Action group but believe I will have more influence by being in the council than outside it.

My priorities
  1. Set up a 10, 20 and 30 year vision for Carterton with community input and then create a plan.
  2. Transport more logs by train than truck to reduce congestion in Carterton and on the Remutaka Hill.
  3. Advocate for NZTA to pay a higher proportion of rural road maintenance costs.
