Mayor of Carterton

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Carterton District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

Our district will face many challenges as we transition through central government’s highly intrusive Local Water Done Well legislation, Regulatory Standards Bill and Local Government Amendment Bill prior to Christmas, with the future viability of council a major concern. I am committed to leading a dynamic team through those challenges, ensuring elected representatives are respectful of different views, are future focused, proud to represent their district, and put the community first over their own personal interests.

About me

Two terms as councillor, including 18 months as your deputy mayor, have provided me with the necessary skills and experience to continue with strong leadership, which is critical to ensuring we are making well-informed, practical and affordable decisions for both rural and urban ratepayers, on behalf of everyone living in our district.

My priorities
  1. Investigate new revenue streams as this will help to offset future rate increases.
  2. Ensure management are fiscally responsible, which will ensure every dollar is spent frugally.
  3. Ensure council focuses on core infrastructure and reduces unnecessary spend.
