Mayor of Central Otago
The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
I am retired but this council has dropped our standards, direction and welfare. Our grandchildren should not be subject to this short-sighted council direction.
About me
Something most don't have – a business brain that sorts out issues and makes people accountable for subpar standards. Some need re-educating.
My priorities
- Restructure. Reduce staff and realign expenditure. Ratepayers deserve better.
- Conduct a forensic audit. Assess where 300 million income over the last six years has been wasted and why.
- Leave Local Government NZ. It has moved away from ratepayer input. There are no open doors anymore.
