The Christchurch City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 16 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). one councillor will be elected from the Papanui ward.   • Increase city-wide tree canopy cover and increase investment in parks to create more urban green space.

    Ensure value for money in biodiversity and pest control programmes.

    Focus on education to prevent contamination of waterways.

  • Continue to develop Papanui Bush in partnership with local schools and community organisations.

    Increase bee- and insect-friendly plantings in green spaces city-wide.

    Provide travel options to reduce dependence on single-occupant fossil-fuelled vehicles, including safe cycling, good public transport and EV facilities.
