Mayor of Far North District

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Far North District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I believe Northland is the best region in New Zealand. I see we are closest to world markets and Auckland, our largest market. I value our best environment, best climate and most amazing people. I believe our opportunities for economic amazement are ripe. I believe once the four laning is in place coupled with the port and generation development, we are poised for success.

About me

I have 27 years of professional and local body governance experience. I have served on pretty much every committee and group from kindergarten to coaching junior football, driving the ambulance as a volunteer and running the business association. I have been an employer, a director on Consumer NZ, trustee and deputy chair of Top Energy Consumer Trust, author of the Dust Remit and representative on multiple national roading and transport-related groups including the Automobile Association.

My priorities
  1. Install a strong governance framework focused on delivery and success.
  2. Outsource CEO performance and KPIs to a professional external advisor who will work alongside elected members.
  3. Second external professional advisors onto committees to support elected member decision making.
