Far North District Council

Ngā Tai o Tokerau Māori Ward
The Far North District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). four councillors will be elected from the Ngā Tai o Tokerau ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Seal roads for 55 marae and 10 kōhanga reo by 2030. Include all school buses and vans in the road matrix so they can travel safely to and from home.

    Upgrade Kaitaia Airport runway one by May 2026 and runway two by December 2026 to ensure hospital flights can deliver doctors safely.
