Justin Tamihana

Māori Ward Councillor Horowhenua District Council

Why I'm standing

As a first-term councillor, I believe Horowhenua has much to offer the world, blessed with strong communities, rich culture and natural beauty. Yet, I am deeply worried our district is going downhill. Poor council decisions, lack of transparency and growing public outcry show people want change. I have consistently spoken out through my policies and statements, urging council to do better, put people first and restore integrity so our district can thrive for future generations.

About me

I am Justin Tamihana, a first-term Māori ward councillor deeply connected to our community through whakapapa, service and relationships. I lead with integrity, honesty and transparency, always putting people first. My strength lies in listening, building trust and uniting diverse voices to achieve better outcomes. Grounded in my role as a husband, father and koro, I bring compassion, accountability and a commitment to serving with fairness and respect for all in our district.

My priorities
  1. Put community first by ensuring decisions reflect people's needs, not top-down governance.
  2. Restore transparency by building trust through open, honest and accountable leadership.
  3. Strengthen engagement by listening, respecting and acting on diverse community voices and concerns.
