Huntly Community Board

The Huntly Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Waikato District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of eight members: six members elected by voters, and two members from the Waikato District Council.  This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

  • Represent community concerns to councils, regional authorities and government departments on issues like water quality.

    Support climate adaptation plans and engage locals in planning for flooding and extreme weather.

    Support community composting and food waste projects including local drop-off hubs, workshops and school programmes.

  • Expand electric vehicle chargers, bus priority and safe cycling to shift trips from private cars and encourage bike usage.

    Install and regularly test multi-channel alerts including cell broadcast, sirens, radio and online and be more proactive on weather events.

    Retrofit council buildings with LEDs, heat pumps and smart controls under energy-performance contracts.
