Waikanae General Ward
The Kāpiti Coast District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. two councillors will be elected from the Waikanae ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

    Require retail outlets to reduce the amount of non-natural packaging on the products they sell.

  • Maintain and improve water infrastructure, recognising Kapiti’s water services are generally in excellent shape but still require some work.

    Reinstate the recycling station in Waikanae based on strong public demand for good recycling policy.

    Restore rubbish collection to being a core council service, reversing full privatisation which was a terrible idea.
