Utilities and services
Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Address complaints about street sweeping waking people before 5am and ensure noisy contractors do not routinely operate between 10pm and 6am.
Defend local management of water, avoid over-treating drinking water and invest in wastewater treatment biogas recovery to provide bottled gas.
Invest in community composting to produce compost for MacKenzie locals as current organic waste is composted and sold to profit Timaru.
Ensure animal control services are effective, fair and responsive to both pet owners and public safety.
Improve rubbish and recycling services to be efficient, accessible and suited to each community's needs.
Maintain safe, reliable drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems across the district.
