The Marlborough District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). seven councillors will be elected from the Blenheim ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

    Support solar-powered public facilities to cut emissions, save energy costs and future-proof services for Marlborough.

  • Ensure safe, clean, chemical-free drinking water supply and negotiate with central government to maintain chlorine-free water.

    Maintain the standard of rubbish collection and get feedback from communities on whether the cycle is sustainable enough.

    Promote safe animal control and establish a clean city and region by adding extra rubbish bins around the city.
